METIS SUPERSCAN PM3D surface scanner

The Metis Superscan PM3D sets new standards for digitization in industrial environments

The METIS SUPERSCAN PM3D surface scanner is METIS' most innovative and technically complex product. The METIS SUPERSCAN PM3D is an unrivaled surface scanner with the most innovative solutions for industrial requirements. The integrated and patented METIS technologies for capturing color and appearance, calculating 3D depth images, gloss extraction, and more offer unique solutions for a highly automated and productive workflow.

The SUPERSCAN PM3D® is based on new scanning concepts developed by METIS in 2014 and tailored to the specific needs of the industrial, decorative, and art markets. The METIS SUPERSCAN PM3D® surface scanner integrates innovative and patent-pending technologies that enable colors to be scanned and 3D surface embossing data to be calculated from them, even at very high resolution, even with large originals such as a long wooden plank, a piece of fabric, a large canvas, etc. This scanner expands the lighting and scanning capabilities of the METIS DRS DCS family and offers the ability to illuminate the original with 8 different and independent light sources. Thousands of different lighting schemes are possible and are supported by sophisticated software and automatic hardware controls. 3D data for the creation of depth, normal, and gloss maps is based on illuminating the object from different directions and then applying unique proprietary METIS algorithms. These calculations result in a highly detailed 3D reconstruction of the original surface. A wide variety of textured or embossed surfaces can be scanned with optimal results, from wood to tiles, wallpaper, painted canvases, and even shiny materials such as glazed ceramics or metallic surfaces.

The METIS SUPERSCAN PM3D® is the first scanner to overcome the resolution limitations caused by the limited number of pixels in an image sensor, thanks to an innovative optomechanical design that enables a native optical resolution of 1200 PPI across the entire scan area of 200 x 130 cm. In addition, the METIS Scan Merge tool allows very large originals (even those that exceed the scan area) to be scanned with perfect results.

The METIS SUPERSCAN PM3D® uses the new METIS Scan Director software, which was developed specifically for the requirements of the industrial, art, and decoration sectors, as well as for processing 3D data.
